Development Closing 7/15/2019 5:00 PM Eastern Description NATURE OF WORK The City of Sunrise offers internships in the areas of administration, finance, community development, urban planning, emergency management, engineering and special projects throughout the City. This is varied semi-professional work which may include, but not limited to, research, technical/financial analysis, special projects, preparation of written communications, critical review of documents and agreements, citizen engagement, interdepartmental coordination, project management, involvement in a wide range of municipal management and community development issues, and assisting in administrative/office management. HOURS: Up to 24 hours per week (3 to 12 months to be determined) Paid Internship at $10 peer hour or "for credit" internship Examples of Duties COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INTERN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The primary duty of the Community Development Intern will be to provide technical and/or administrative assistance to the City's Community Development Engineering Division. This may include assistance in various aspects of land development as related to civil engineering, as well as and other related function of municipal engineering within Community Development. LEARNING OUTCOMES Intern will gain knowledge and experience relating to the operations of a large community development department including but not limited to: compliance and regulatory requirements, dealing with the public, reporting, and being part of a team. Requirements EDUCATION Must be currently enrolled at an accredited Florida college or university in an undergraduate program in Civil Engineering ( Proof of current enrollment required ) PROOF OF EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION . (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physical: Light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to twenty pounds. Descending and climbing stairways and extended periods of standing observation may be required during field activities. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Sensory: The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of engineering.
