We are a small, interdisciplinary team of astronomers, writers, designers, and developers building data visualizations for students and the general public. Our goal is to make LSST data, astronomy, and science interesting and accessible to a broad audience. No coffee runs here! We love helping talented people learn and explore their skills. As a member of our team, you would have the opportunity to work on any combination of the following: Building web-based interactive visualizations for use in classrooms and by the general public Designing static and interactive graphics for astronomy outreach Helping to develop the foundations of the public website for LSST Helping to plan and execute LSST's long-term public outreach priorities Helping to define the overall look and feel of our public-facing materials Challenges: There are a few challenges in presenting LSST science to different types of audiences. Historically, design thinking has not been incorporated in science education development and in presenting scientific data, which has made it less accessible to non-specialists. We aim to change this. As a result, you will be working with team members from a variety of professional backgrounds. This role requires more team collaboration, effective communication, and empathy with people's experience and processes than at your typical startup or corporation.About you: Above all, what were looking for in a great candidate is the ability and desire to learn. We are searching for a creative, thoughtful individual who is interested in and able to think critically about online education, and is able to translate ideas to prototypes. If you're a strong visual designer, or more focused on the front end, we would love to meet ****** ideal candidate could have experience with: Development experience with front-end web development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) UX chops and a general ability to design for humans, as well as an ability to effectively communicate UX Experience working and prototyping with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, or Webflow Experience with git and GitHub.
