The primary purpose of the Physics Assistant position is to provide support to a comprehensive quality assurance program that ensures proper function of radiation measurement equipment, treatment devices, imaging systems, and associated equipment and technologies. Carry out clinical radiation oncology related activities under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist.
1. Performs all aspects of quality assurance measurement on radiation treatment machine, dose measurement instrumentation, and patient imaging systems.
2. Assists in the calibration, commissioning and maintenance of dosimetry equipment. Assists with acceptance and commissioning measurements for treatment, imaging, and planning systems.
3. Performs direct and indirect patient specific dosimetry and quality assurance functions:
a. Uses the treatment planning system to prepare for dose measurements, which includes calculating a verification plan stemmed from a clinical plan, and defining a point for measurement based on the verification plan.
b. Performs dose measurements to verify patient dose distribution
c. Performs quality assurance for apertures as needed.
4. Performs tests to ensure no collision problem for patient treatments and assists with design patient immobilization devices.
5. Analyzes data and prepares reports.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors Degree in a physical science, engineering or related field.
Some related experience required.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Masters degree preferred. Previous experience in radiation oncology physics.
