Responsibilities The Division Leader for Mechanical Engineering and Systems Packaging is responsible for a diverse team of approximately 150 members who comprise Drapers principal expertise in Mechanical Engineering & Design, Analysis & Validation, and Manufacturing. The team of engineers, technicians, and machinists work with each Program Office at Draper to develop early stage concepts through build-to-print solutions in areas such as: Complex electro-mechanical systems High-reliability and/or harsh environment applications Robotics and unmanned systems High-density electronic packaging To meet these challenges, the Division maintains and operates a wide range of capabilities including MCAD (SolidWorks, Creo), Analysis (Ansys, Nastran), Circuit Card Assembly Facility, Machine Shop, and 3D printing facility. Specific responsibilities of the Division Leader include: Ensure the Division has the capability to successfully execute work by hiring, developing, and tasking technical staff with challenging work Work with senior technical and program leadership to identify and support technical capabilities and discriminating technologies Technical oversight for the quality and timeliness of project execution Support business development and proposal generation activities Develop and execute a Division level strategic plan that addresses staff, facilities, and other resources required to meet anticipated business needs Identify, develop, and apply innovative technologies that solve critical existing and future sponsor related problems Providing career development through mentoring, growth assignments, professional seminars, and other educational opportunities Qualifications Qualifications S./PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar with 10+ years direct and demonstrated leadership experience in staff and technology development and applications, preferably in the military electronics/avionics industry. Technical and managerial accomplishments in the development, deployment, and application of complex mechanical systems are required. Experience as a team leader tasked with developing, analyzing, testing, and deploying sophisticated mechanical systems and/or as a line manager overseeing direct reports working in similar areas is strongly desired. Professional recognition, such as sponsor acknowledgment, publications and patents, and participation in organized working groups/steering committees, is considered a plus. Prefer candidates with an active secret security clearance is preferred. However, applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
