The selected candidates will be assigned to the Pedestrian Ramp Enforcement Unit, inspecting permits before, during, and after the installation of pedestrian ramps; performing pedestrian ramp inspections; ensuring that all pedestrian ramps installed by private contractors or utility companies complies with DOTs and ADA specifications. S/he will be required to conducts surveys, investigate complaints and report on findings; perform technical work in the inspection of roadways, sidewalks, and street openings; inspect sites and/or private properties; monitor code compliance of commercial entities in their use of City streets and sidewalks; check permits and licenses, inspect for proper display of mandated signs and postings; maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports, logs, and sketches; respond to 311 complaints and requests for inspections; responds to email and priority complaints; issue violations and appear in court when required; issue corrective action requests as needed; conduct post audit/active inspections, and corrective action request re-inspections, through the usage of a computer tablet.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing a four year high school diploma or its equivalent; experience working well with technical and non-technical staff; possess good verbal and writing skills; communicate effectively with the public, management and other DOT Divisions/Units in a professional manner; ability to work well independently, and as part of a team; knowledge of MS Word and Outlook.

The Apprentice Highway and Sewer Inspector position is an apprenticeship program with various salary levels. Once in the program and after successfully completing a probationary period, salary will automatically increase each year (annual anniversary of the original appointment date) to the following designation levels:
New Hire Rate $31,320 Incumbent Rate:$34,318
After completion of the first year $32,421/$37,284
After completion of the second year $40,318
After completion of the third year $43,611
After completion of the fourth year $46,898
