This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Directorate for Epidemiology, Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction, Division of Hazard & Injury Data Systems, Data Operations Branch. The purpose of the work is to provide the Commission with reliable data reports on the affected populations, nature of injuries and specific hazard patterns which the Commission will use in decisions to regulate, ban, develop or take action.

The CPSC is seeking recent graduates under the Pathways Program. This position is provided for recent graduates with a desire to work in the consumer product safety field and/or public sector and assignments are designed to complement the graduates educational field while meeting the expressed needs of the agency and CPSC organizations.
The incumbent is responsible for:
Oversight of data reporting by contractors, including hospitals participating in NEISS and other injury-related data sources such as state vital statistics offices, medical examiners, and coroners.
Review of the data for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, validity and reliability, and development of remedial approaches to resolve any issues identified with data quantity or quality.
Maintenance of effective relationships with contractors that provide injury data.
Review of budgetary aspects related to contract expenditures and contribution to the review of invoices for payment.
Development and interpretation of statistical analyses and dissemination of written summaries of data for use by management in program decisions.
Improvement of data reporting by hospitals and other data sources throughout the country by traveling to hospitals and conducting oral presentations and meetings with hospital administrators, physicians, coders, and staff or through effective modes of remote communication.
Assistance in the development of plans and procedures for improvement of data collection activities to assure that data quantity and data quality are maintained at optimum levels.
Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required outside of duty location.

This is an appointment under the CPSC Recent Graduate program. You must have graduated within the past two years, from a qualifying educational institution or certificate program. The program duration is one year. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a permanent position in the competitive service. Appointee must sign a Participant Agreement. Recent Graduates will enter a formal training program with a mentor and execute an Individual Development Plan outlining training requirements and program expectations. The entire duration of the Recent Graduate Appointment constitutes a trial period.
This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. * You must have a final cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 3.0.
* Current Students may apply up to 90 days prior to their graduation date.
* Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
* Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.
* May submit unofficial transcript(s). Official transcript(s) will be required, if applicant is selected for a position.

Applicants must have a Masters or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. The area of study for graduate degrees must be in public health or health sciences or a related field.
