Position Information Position Title Assistant Director - Diversity Recruitment Classification Title FT Administrator Position Number AF9609 City/Campus Detroit - McNichols Department Admissions and Recruitment Position Status Full Time Position Summary Information Position Summary The Assistant Director of Admissions for Diversity Recruitment is a creative and knowledgeable professional who works collaboratively with the university community to assist in the planning, development and implementation for diversity recruitment and admissions programs locally within the Detroit Public Schools System, regionally and nationally; development of strong ties with community-based organizations (CBOs), charters and other private schools as well as community colleges to help identify the best and brightest underrepresented students for all colleges, and specifically those students who would benefit from DETROIT MERCYs NIH STEM program, ReBUILD Detroit. In this leadership position, the Assistant Director will actively contribute to the growth, development and activities of the department that promote a commitment to our mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (1) Enhance current target markets both by identifying populations for outreach and develop and implement activities and programs aimed to increase university visibility (2) Manage and evaluate prospect, conversion, and yield activities within a designated recruitment territory, and across territories as needed (3) Initiate and maintain contact with high school and community college students, counselors, and other school administrators through individual and group interactions (4) Initiate and maintain contact with community-based organizations and provide programming to inform them about DETROIT MERCY offerings (5) Work with internal DETROIT MERCY programs that support diversity (6) Engages with internal and external diversity-related organizations and government agencies that support our diversity strategy. (7) Assists in the development of internal networks and in providing effective means of communicating diversity initiatives throughout the University (8) Cultivate area multicultural alumni network and incorporate into recruitment efforts (9) Recruit at day and evening events as a representative of the University (10) Review academic qualifications and make admissions decisions (11) Communicate and explain all financial aid information to prospective students from the inquiry stage through final award clarification (12) Manage and coordinate programs for assigned liaison(s) roles between Admissions Office and other DETROIT MERCY departments (13) Collaborate with various university stakeholders during the recruitment and enrollment process (14) Evaluate data from self-initiated and standard enrollment reports to determine actions which will maximize recruitment (15) Assist with day-to-day functions of the Admissions Office and other duties as necessary to support the recruitment efforts (16) All other duties as assigned Education (Minimum/Preferred) Bachelors degree required and three years of recruitment experience preferred, masters preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience (Minimum/Preferred) Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment and/or with students from diverse backgrounds Customer service oriented Demonstrated ability to solve problems through a collaborative consultation model Effective negotiation skills Clear verbal and written abilities with effective interpersonal skills Strong public speaker with informative and persuasive speaking skills Ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish required productivity goals A fundamental understanding of current issues and challenges facing individuals representing diverse backgrounds The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Familiarity with the key processes in recruitment and promotion targeting individuals representing diverse backgrounds is preferred. Available to work evenings and weekends Knowledge working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and social media outlets Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record Privately owned vehicle required for university business. Other Skills and Abilities Physical Requirements Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
