He or she will be charged with leading MAPs communications, fundraising, and external relations in support of our organizations rapid growth in Washington and our work nationwide. This role will also serve as a supervisor to one or more employees, and will oversee workflows and delegate tasks as necessary.Success will be driven by the individuals ability to ensure that our work is landing in front of key stakeholders in media, policy, and legislative roles, and that the impact of our work is recognized for future funding opportunities. ABOUT MILLENNIAL ACTION PROJECT The Millennial Action Project has an audacious mission: make political cooperation a norm through Millennial leadership. MAP is a national, nonpartisan organization dedicated to activating millennial policymakers to cooperatively govern our country. In 2013, MAP organized the nations first and only caucus for young members of Congress, the Congressional Future Caucus, to forge pragmatic cooperation on future-oriented challenges. MAP also scaled this model into nearly 30 state legislatures, each with a Future Caucus consisting of young, high-potential legislators. The national Advisory Board includes Senator Olympia Snowe, Senator BIll Bradley, Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., Governor Jennifer Granholm, and former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra. The Director of External Affairs will report to the President, and as MAP grows and evolves, reporting lines are subject to change. This position will have the following responsibilities: Lead MAPs external communications efforts * Develop and implement an annual communications, press, and social media plan targeting both national and local impact * Work with members of leadership to identify media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to build awareness of MAPs mission; drive rapid response and proactively pitch stories * Manage press relationships, contacts, and inquiries * Serve as editor of MAPs digital communications, including email, website, and social media content * Develop collateral related to MAP for fundraising, brand awareness, and communications purposes Lead external engagement in conjunction with the President and Development Manager * Implement and enhance a robust development plan for securing funding from sources including foundations, individual donors, corporate partners, and in-kind contributors. * Work with the Board and key staff to grow a major gifts program including prospecting, research, cultivation, and solicitation of major institutional and individual donors * Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff * Meet prospective partners, donors, and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective relationships with them * Collaborate with staff on the management and planning of program activity to ensure inclusion of robust communications and development components * Manage and supervise staff * Set performance goals and deadlines that align with the companys plans and visions * Organize workflow and ensure that direct reports understand their duties and delegated tasks * Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching * Other related responsibilities as assigned Qualifications: * Passion for MAPs mission and the health of our democracy * Bachelors degree and a minimum of 5 to 8 years experience in a role with similar responsibilities, preferably in a high-growth organization * Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to liaise with multiple stakeholders * Experience managing or executing digital and/or press strategy on behalf of an organization * Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, legislator and legislative staff partner, donors, program participants, and other supporters * Excellent writing and presentation skills * Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills * Desire to get out of the office and build external relationships * Proven experience as a manager or relevant role * Demonstrated leadership skills * Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker Please apply: Submit resume and cover letter to Jobs@millennialaction.org Millennial Action Project is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.
