The intern will help students develop in both academic and life skill areas through tutoring, mentoring, life skills presentations, career discussion and study time. Responsibilities include encouraging, challenging and evaluating students both academically and relationally, advocating for students, connecting tutors to students and managing schedules, tracking student’s college readiness progress and creating reports to send to parents and teachers. The intern will have the opportunity to model and share Christian values, conduct guided classroom teaching of established curriculum, organize activities and special events, assist with volunteer recruitment and oversee various program logistics. Opportunities for case management exposure and experience are available for interested applicants. For applicants with moderate or better Spanish skills, an intern would have a significant opportunity to practice Spanish while working with bilingual staff and students and communicating with Puente’s immigrant parent population.
The intern will receive experience in the over-all working of a Christian, community-based social service ministry and gain valuable knowledge and skills in working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of youth and staff. Interns will work closely with program staff and will have the opportunity to contribute creative suggestions and ideas for program development.
