Social Work Intern

Training Path 1

This path is for social work students that are interested in pursuing a career in behavioral health and plan on pursuing a degree in social work (MSW) or another related behavioral health field (M.S, M.A, MFT). Interns will have direct service training, working with individuals and families experiencing economic hardship, marginalization and other social detriments.

Interns may co-facilitate psycho educational programs and life skills classes under the supervision of a clinical social worker, clinical counselor or a trained professional including but not limited to :

• Evidence-Based Personal Development (Reboot)
• Nurturing and Parenting Classes For School-Aged Children (ages 5-17; Parent Education) (Rise Forward)
• Domestic Violence Education (Non-Certified)
• Anger Management Education (Non-Certified)
• Interns may co-facilitate evidenced-based support groups based on principles of “Seeking Safety” geared towards addressing underlying trauma in communities experiencing high levels of stress. Community areas of focus for support groups include recovery/re-entry, parenting, and domestic violence. (Surviving Trauma).
• Complete thorough one-on-one client assessments using evidence-based screening tools (ACES, CANS) and professional documentation via Zoom Telehealth.

Including:

- Biopsychosocial Assessments

- Strengths and Needs Assessments

- Safety and Risk Assessments

- Intake Documentation (Participant Information Docs, Pre Survey, Case Management Notes, Applicable Assessments)

- 90 Day Progress Documentation (Post Survey, Case Management Notes, Client Progress Notes and assessments if applicable.)

Provide additional supportive services deemed necessary and directed under the support of ACSW.

• Full Case Management of identified individuals which includes tracking of progress at meeting identified goals, Direct Contact Support and Resource Screening and Linkage.
• Administering evidence based screening tools under the supervision of ACSW to be used for clinical interpretation by a licensed mental health professional.

Responsibilities:

Training Path 2

This path is for social work students that are interested in a career in community social work. This path is also open to students studying an alternative humanities degree such as human services, sociology, etc. This training path includes comprehensive leadership training in the non profit sector and focuses on community strengthening and capacity building via program development.

Interns will work closely with nonprofit management and leadership which includes an interdisciplinary team of business, marketing, social work and clinical professionals. Interns receive supervision and support from an identified direct supervisor and an ACSW or LCSW that provides oversight for social work/community non profit operations.

Program Evaluation

• Provide support to program managers in tracking program progress to be utilized for purposes of evaluation. This includes but is not limited to creating monthly reports using CRM that includes relevant data and metrics of performance identified in program plan/project proposal.
• Interns are expected to collect data to be used for the interpretation of program evaluators/program managers and will be trained on industry best practices.
• Track progress of data collection, ensuring participant surveys, facilitator documentation and other metrics of performance are collected in a timely manner.
• Provide support to clinical/direct-service staff as needed in respect to data collection/program evaluation by sending reminders/updates for upcoming 90 day post surveys, Identifying missing documentation and assistance in troubleshooting barriers to data collection as necessary.

Grant writing and Research

• Conduct grant research using organizational resources and tracking tools based on organizational protocols. Document research efforts using Non Profit CRM that includes identification of possible opportunities and information necessary for determination. Contact organizations directly when pertinent information is missing via email, phone call, or voicemail.
• Conduct research for corporate funding opportunities and document research efforts using Non Profit CRM that includes information necessary for determination. Contact organizations directly when pertinent information is missing via email, phone call, or voicemail.
• Conduct research for data, statistics and other community metrics of performance/information necessary for grant writing/program proposal purposes.
• Assist in the grant writing process by reporting research findings in summary format using APA standard.
• Support team in grant writing efforts by completing assigned project proposal portions that will be incorporated in draft.
• Track grant submissions using grants calendar, tracking tools and identified protocols, including following up with funders via email, phone-call, or voicemail.

Program Planning Support

• Provide support to program manager, clinical director, program director and/or CEO in identified activities related to successful implementation of program plans and events.
• Participate in community outreach activities necessary for participant recruitment and community engagement.
• Support management/leadership staff in community engagement by identifying and attending key meetings with non-profit representative(s).
• Represent organization well in meetings under the supervision and support of identified non-profit representative(s) by following zoom etiquette protocols and protocols covered in training.

Requirements:

• Enrolled in social work or psychology program with an accredited college
• Familiarity with individual, family and group therapy principles and techniques
• Ability to work with diverse groups in a culturally competent manner
• Effective and professional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a start-up environment.
• Able to work with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook) and can pick up new technological skills easily.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
