Our internships require a minimum of 250 volunteer hours over a 3-4 month period and are available immediately.

Our Eagan Lewis House is a safe houses for women and their children who are fleeing domestic or sexual violence. We promote safety, support and advocacy services, which provide help to about 3,000 women and children annually. Our interns will receive training in Domestic violence intervention and prevention to provide support to women and their children. In addition, an intern may be exposed to doing client intakes, assist with facilitating support groups, assisting with writing orders for protection and providing legal advocacy. Common duties in a shelter environment include, but are not limited to; answer and direct crisis line calls, screen and answer the door, accept donations, direct vendors, inventory and put away grocery orders, support families by providing personal needs products, and other duties as directed.

Requirements
Qualifications: We place a high emphasis on listening skills to uncover the needs of our clients. Experience with or knowledge of working with culturally diverse populations. Ability to multi-task in high energy environments, problem solving, effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills, self-directed, motivated, non-judgmental.

Preferred Qualification: understanding of trauma informed care, crisis management skills.
