Job Overview
- One-of-a-kind experience in a culturally diverse recreation program
- Designed to provide residents with genuine and impactful recreation experiences
- Improve socialization, emotion regulation and expression, self-esteem, and more
- Interns work with children in the Green Chimneys residential treatment program
- Assist with recreational activities, programming, special events, and documentation
- Specialize in art, adventure, and nature-based therapies
- Extensive training, supervision, and professional development opportunities
Compensation
- Volunteer position
- Academic credit available
- Housing not guaranteed or likely for summer months
Responsibilities
- Facilitate recreational activities
- Assist recreation staff with programming and special events
- Maintain documentation of assessments, evaluations, and treatment
- Participate in Green Chimneys staff training, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, adventure programming, First Aid/CPR certification, Lifeguard training, and professional development
Requirements
- Must be a junior in college or 21 years of age
- Commitment to a minimum of a 14-week internship
- Interest in working with youth with special emotional and behavioral needs
- Experience with children preferred, but not required
- Willingness to actively participate and experience new situations
- Must be receiving college credit, preference to interns currently studying therapeutic recreation in college
