Job Overview

Join the American Red Cross, the world's largest humanitarian network, and be part of a meaningful mission. As an intern in the Government Relations department, you will have the opportunity to assist in outreach and education efforts for elected officials at the Federal and State levels of government. Your work will contribute to raising awareness of the Red Cross mission and its impact on communities across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop outreach efforts for elected officials to increase awareness of the Red Cross mission.
  • Support projects aimed at improving community resilience and ensuring quick recovery in the face of disasters and emergencies.
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment through sustained outreach and education with public officials.
  • Monitor and analyze legislation and regulations related to disaster preparedness and mitigation.
  • Attend disaster-related meetings, such as congressional hearings, and develop position statements.
  • Attend department meetings and participate in community outreach and field work.
  • Help develop a database of key community partners.
  • Attend conferences and educational opportunities relevant to the role.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, entering at least the Junior year.
  • Up to 1 year of related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
