Intern in the Government Relations Department

Job Overview

FAIR is seeking an Intern to join our Government Relations Department. In this role, you will assist the department in various tasks and gain valuable experience in government relations.

Compensation

  • Up to 24 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 a year
  • Part-time/seasonal position
  • Non-exempt

Responsibilities

  • Identify, track, and analyze federal legislation and regulations
  • Monitor and report on Congressional committee activities and hearings
  • Assist the Government Relations Director and Senior Government Relations Manager in overseeing the placement and dissemination of the department's work product
  • Attend meetings and events on behalf of the Government Relations Director when needed
  • Complete complex research and writing assignments on immigration-related topics and issues
  • Contribute materials for dissemination on FAIR's website, blog, and to FAIR members
  • Work with the Director to represent FAIR in meetings with Congressional staff, executive officials, and coalition members
  • Advocate for all FAIR's programs and objectives

Requirements

  • A current or recent graduate of an accredited University in Political Science
  • Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and produce materials efficiently
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong commitment to FAIR's mission
  • Ability to quickly gain understanding and knowledge of issues impacting immigration policy
