Job Overview

The Assistant Director, as part of the Student Disability Services (SDS) leadership team, works closely with the director and SDS team members to ensure SDS students receive the appropriate accommodations and services. This position is based on-campus. Hybrid and remote work arrangements are not available.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret disability-related documentation to determine reasonable accommodations
  • Conduct intake interviews and meetings with families and students
  • Coordinate and implement accommodations/support services in collaboration with SDS team members and other relevant individuals on campus
  • Provide leadership and oversight for departmental based programming, including New Student Registration, Welcome Week, and disability awareness events
  • Provide direct support and services to SDS students including academic coaching, assistive technology training, and tracking progress for student retention efforts
  • Support students in securing accommodations for off-campus study programs or high-stakes exams
  • Supervise the Disability Specialist position
  • Develop SDS policies, procedures, and departmental objectives
  • Support faculty, staff, and other university personnel in their work with students with disabilities
  • Collaborate with community and campus resources to enhance internship and future employment opportunities for students with disabilities
  • Participate in campus-wide committees and working groups as directed
  • Oversee departmental operations in the absence of the Director
  • Manage and maintain private information in a confidential manner

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related fields
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Ability to interpret disability-related documentation accurately
  • Experience supporting students from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
