Job Overview

Carilion Clinic, a designated Great Place to Work, is seeking an Innovation Intern - Mechanical Engineering to join their team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to transforming healthcare by engaging in innovative projects and collaborating with medical staff. This role offers professional stability, strong technological resources, and the potential for advancement.

Compensation

Responsibilities

  • Document user requirements and potential product specifications
  • Design and build prototypes from ideation to working prototypes
  • Collaborate with mentors and clinician stakeholders to develop solutions adhering to engineering and safety principles
  • CAD modeling: Create 3-D models from 2-D drawings
  • Cad Modeling: Build parts and assemblies for simulations
  • 3D printing: Generate and develop 3D models for leading designs
  • On-site availability for up to 15 hours per week
  • Engage in interdepartmental projects using the Sim Center as a prototyping hub
  • Conduct data analysis and perform product evaluation and redesign
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

To be successful in this position, please meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree (or 4th-year undergraduate) in mechanical engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Knowledge of hand tools and rapid prototyping equipment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management and planning skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft TEAMS
  • ECAD/PCB layout skills preferred
  • Coding skills preferred
