Job Overview

The Marketing/Communications Intern at Hampton Roads Transit will assist in various marketing efforts. This part-time position requires 20-25 hours per week with an hourly rate of $20. The intern will be responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating creative marketing, public relations, sales, public outreach, TRAFFIX, and graphic artwork for public information and promotional materials. The internship program will run from September 2023-June 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team, meet deadlines, and contribute ideas and concepts.
  • Develop skills in preparing analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
  • Coordinate the processes of selling transit advertising, fare media, and GoPass365.
  • Assist with planning and preparation for promotional events.
  • Maintain HRT social media accounts, identify target audiences, develop and post content, evaluate ROI.
  • Work with the TRAFFIX department on business to consumer and business to business marketing and outreach.
  • Plan and execute public outreach events, identify key messages, and communicate effectively with audiences.
  • Assist with creating copy for various marketing materials and see projects through to completion.
  • Stay up to date with new methods, tools, equipment, and developments in graphic production and design.
  • Help identify new business development opportunities and plan launch and implementation.
  • Manage records in compliance with Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Acrobat Professional, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and experience with graphic design software is a plus (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Quark, Dreamweaver).
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or better).
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • Non-essential personnel.
  • Non-exempt position.
