Job Overview

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). MSTS is seeking qualified and motivated undergraduate students for engineering or science intern positions. As an intern, you will work under the direct supervision of a manager and mentor, gaining hands-on experience and participating in ongoing projects. This casual position allows for a maximum of 900 hours per calendar year.

Compensation

Hourly range for this position is $16.05 - $28.99.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop innovative solutions to customer-driven R&D requirements
  • Develop and support complex diagnostic characterizations used in High Energy Density Experimentation
  • Contribute to control systems and data collection efforts for complex instruments
  • Write internal reports on accomplishments and research activities at the completion of each employment period

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited first-year engineering program (Mechanical or Electrical) or a Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree program (Physics or Computer Science preferred)
  • US Citizenship is required for all positions
  • Must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  • Possess planning/organizing skills and initiative
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of engineering equipment, software, systems, calculations, and applications
  • Self-motivated and open to exploring all areas of engineering
  • Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and programming
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, 'Identity, Credential, and Access Management,' and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, 'Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors'
  • Must pass a pre-placement drug screen
