Job Overview

Chartwells Higher Ed is hiring immediately for a Food & Nutrition Intern position at Barnard College. As an intern, you will work closely with the leaders in the Barnard College hospitality group to gain practical experience in preparing for accredited Dietetic Internship programs. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in foodservice operations, nutrient analysis, marketing and promoting health-promoting foods, nutrition education campaigns, menu planning, food safety, innovation, and client relationship skills. This internship will provide hands-on experience in the world of hospitality with a focus on nutrition and well-being.

Compensation

Starting pay: $15.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Ensure food safety in a safe environment
  • Assure an exceptional guest experience
  • Bring innovation into services
  • Provide operational support for serving platforms
  • Conduct recipe nutrient analysis
  • Assist in menu planning
  • Support educational nutrition campaigns
  • Execute operational standards
  • Manage FDA regulation standards
  • Conduct market research
  • Manage website and social media content

Requirements

  • Junior-level credit hour standing or above
  • Enrolled in a nutrition, dietetics, or foodservice related field in pursuit of credentials as a Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • GPA of at least 3.25 in all attempted undergraduate work
  • Interest in food service management
  • Interest in culinary arts and service
  • Leadership attitude
  • Good to better interpersonal skills
  • General interest and knowledge
  • Attention to detail
  • Awareness of sustainability practices
  • Must be an undergraduate nutrition and dietetics student
  • Interest in sustainability, carbon footprint, farm-to-fork, special dietary needs, or quality assurance
