Job Overview
Join Allstate's Data, Discovery & Decision Science (D3) team as a Data Science Intern for Summer 2024! D3 is responsible for supporting internal business units with data analysis and research projects. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn and apply mathematical, statistical, and machine learning techniques to assist in the development of pricing and economic models, decision-making tools, and data visualization apps. This internship will provide you with a unique learning environment through formal training, mentoring, coaching, and hands-on experience.
Compensation
- $42.00 per hour
Responsibilities
- Develop statistical and machine learning models to address business needs
- Utilize project planning techniques to break down projects into manageable tasks and meet deadlines
- Use a variety of tools and languages, such as R, Python, Spark, and SQL, to achieve results
- Collaborate with the team to improve business decisions through data analysis and machine learning
- Innovate on projects by exploring new modeling techniques and tools
- Communicate findings to the team and leadership for better business processes
- Review and evaluate modeling techniques for effectiveness
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computer or physical science)
- Pursuit of a graduate degree strongly preferred
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Clear communication abilities
- Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and/or data mining
- Experience with programming
- Understanding of algorithmic scaling and complexity is a plus
- Experience with big-data tools (e.g., Spark) is a plus
