Job Overview

  • Assess and provide nutrition treatment, consultation, and education to specialized group of patients and/or families as ordered by physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate nutritional assessment, evaluation, and follow-up plans for high-risk patients and those at risk
  • Consult with physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional status and needs
  • Provide quality diabetes education to patients, families, and groups
  • Document relevant aspects of diabetes care in medical charts and communicate with referring physician
  • Bill for group and individual patient encounters, maintaining billing and documentation requirements
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary team and serve as a nutrition resource to other staff members
  • Participate in marketing and coordinating diabetes education resources
  • Maintain professional licensure and certification in clinical expertise area
  • Attend meetings and represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts
  • Establish data collection and management protocols for tracking program goals and metrics
  • May be required to operate/transport nutrition vehicle to community partners and clinic sites

Requirements

  • B.S. degree with a major in Food & Nutrition from accredited college or university, including an accredited dietetic internship, coupled with a minimum of 5 years progressive clinical nutrition experience
  • M.S. degree in food and nutrition with approved training from the American Dietetic Association, coupled with 3 years clinical nutrition experience
  • Specialty certification such as CNSD, CDE, or other specialty beneficial to GUH nutrition practice, with three years clinical nutrition experience
  • Relevant combination of education/training and experience considered
  • Knowledge of current clinical dietetics
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in schedule and tasks
  • Computer skills
  • Legible handwriting
  • Good customer service skills and attitude
  • Team player
