Java Developer Student Intern (Remote Within Ca)

Job Overview

  • Part-time internship with the Financial Applications Team in Information Technology Services at the University of California Office of the President (UCOP)
  • Year-round internship with flexible hours based on school schedules and availability
  • Fully remote position within the state of California
  • Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in information technology and work on Java web applications

Compensation

  • Salary: $19.96 - 24.95 hourly commensurate with skills/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic design, development, modification, and debugging of Java applications
  • Perform source code management and application build and deployment
  • Conduct unit testing to ensure proper operation and conformance to test plans
  • Prepare technical and functional documents
  • Perform basic data analysis to serve the business users' needs
  • Collaborate with core team members, subject matter experts, and business partners
  • Proactively engage other ITS teams in cross-functional efforts

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled University of California student
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills
  • Strong writing skills suitable for a general, non-technical audience
  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization
  • Demonstrated interest in learning application programming best practices
  • Strong Java programming language experience
  • Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Basic understanding of database SQL and DDL
  • Ability to perform source code management and application build and deployment using tools like Git, Maven, and Shell scripts
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
