Job Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects in the field of medical device development and surgical robotic systems. This is a valuable opportunity for students enrolled in Mechanical Engineering undergraduate or graduate degree programs to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-world projects.

Compensation

  • Base Salary Range Region 1: $58,800 - $91,760
  • Base Salary Range Region 2: $49,980 - $73,980
  • Shift: Day
  • Travel: 10% of the time
  • Workplace Type: Onsite

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing engineering tasks, problem-solving, and documentation activities related to medical device development and surgical robotic systems and instruments
  • Designing, assembling, and debugging mechanical and/or electromechanical test fixtures to evaluate designs
  • Developing methods and executing performance tests on component and/or assembly prototypes to inform the design
  • Developing design concepts or refinement of design for the product
  • Communicating and collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders to provide updates and deliver task deliverables
  • Working on substantive projects that have the potential to impact the future business of the company
  • Presenting a project you have been involved with and lessons learned to the organization

Requirements

To be considered for the Mechanical Engineering Intern position, you must meet the following requirements:

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
  • Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting in May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering or relevant Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor's level. Master's level students will also be considered based on specific relevant experience.
  • Mechanical design and analysis skills, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, and stress analysis
  • Hands-on experience creating rapid prototypes and mock-ups
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including injection molding and machining
  • Prior use of CAD to design components, assemblies, and mechanisms in SolidWorks is preferred
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Matlab or Python is preferred
  • Knowledge of electromechanical or mechatronics design is preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
