Job Overview

The South Dakota State Government is seeking a motivated intern to join their Department of Economic Assistance. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to assist Benefits Specialists in determining eligibility for Economic Assistance programs including Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This is a summer internship position, running from May to August.

Compensation

Minimum Salary: $17.88 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Review applications and interview applicants
  • Process forms and enter data
  • Assess customer needs and provide appropriate referrals

Requirements

  • Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
  • By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
  • All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions
