Job Overview

  • Leah B. Guilbeau & Associates, staff counsel for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in Lafayette, Louisiana, is hiring a rising 3L Summer Law Intern (Class of 2025)
  • Full-time schedule in the summer beginning Monday, May 20, 2024, through Friday, August 2, 2024, with the potential to transition to a part-time schedule during the 2024/2025 school year
  • Paid $28/hour
  • Hybrid environment (combination of in-office and remote)
  • Opportunity to work one-on-one with attorneys, observe all phases of litigation, and have a designated mentor throughout the internship
  • Ideal candidate possesses excellent organization skills, an energetic/positive attitude, legal research knowledge, and the ability to work well under deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Compensation

  • $28/hour

Responsibilities

  • Provide a balanced and realistic representation of the function of Claims Litigation Counsel
  • Obtain real-world exposure to a multitude of legal services being provided
  • Work one-on-one with attorneys on assigned projects
  • Observe every phase of litigation
  • Have a designated mentor throughout the internship

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a 2L student in an ABA law school and must remain enrolled for the duration of the internship
  • 2L students in the top half of their class
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Louisiana Evidence and Civil Procedure a plus
  • Completion of Louisiana Insurance Law course a plus
  • Must be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunity.
