Job Overview

The Development Coordinator VISTA will serve the community by acquiring resources to help low-income communities throughout New York use digital technology to live a better life through access to devices, broadband internet, and appropriate digital skills. The VISTA will develop relationships with potential donors and program partners, research best practices, and write grant proposals. VISTA may also get opportunities for volunteer and social media engagement, based on interest and skills.

Compensation

  • Living stipend: $22,882 annually
  • Choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award ($6,895 towards educational expenses or debt) or a Cash Stipend (approximately $1,800) at end of service
  • Mileage reimbursements for qualifying travel, including relocation costs for distances greater than 50 miles
  • Healthcare benefits
  • 1-year Non-Competitive Eligibility Status for employment with the Federal Government
  • A desktop computer to keep after the service experience
  • Training on topics including grant writing, donor cultivation, digital inclusion in the United States, volunteer management, computers, technology, and Microsoft products

  • Many government agencies, higher education institutions, and other employers provide benefits to AmeriCorps alumni

Responsibilities

  • Research funding sources, maintaining information about potential foundations, donors, and opportunities in an organized and accessible manner
  • Communicate with potential funders about Mission: Ignite's programs
  • Research, draft, and track grants
  • Discover and help implement best practices evolving from digital inclusion practitioners across the world
  • As time allows, explore how underutilized organizational resources, like social media accounts and volunteer programs can be used in a fundraising plan

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent communication, especially in written mediums
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Word & PowerPoint), and video conferencing
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with diverse customers, coworkers, and community
  • Ability to embrace the challenge of learning and teaching basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer and device characteristics, and everyday online services and applications
