Legislative Intern (Graduate Student)

Job Overview
AARP, the nation's largest nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, is seeking a graduate student intern to support their New York State Office in Albany. This paid internship will begin in October 2023 and end in December 2023, requiring a commitment of 25 hours per week. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to advocacy-related work and voter education.
Compensation
Hourly range:
- Undergraduates: $18
- Graduate students: $21
- Ph.D. candidates: $28
Please note that internships are non-exempt positions and do not include employee benefits.
Responsibilities
- Assist in grassroots organizing and advocacy efforts
- Analyze policies, programs, and regulations affecting the 50+ population
- Support the production and dissemination of correspondence
- Represent AARP at local events and media engagements
- Monitor legislative issues in publications and news media
- Deliver educational and advocacy materials to relevant offices
- Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be a graduate or post-doctoral student enrolled throughout the internship
- Self-starter who can adapt to tight deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse populations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Familiarity with video editing and multiple social media platforms is a plus
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
