Job Overview

AARP, the nation's largest nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, is seeking a graduate student intern to support their New York State Office in Albany. This paid internship will begin in October 2023 and end in December 2023, requiring a commitment of 25 hours per week. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to advocacy-related work and voter education.

Compensation

Hourly range:

  • Undergraduates: $18
  • Graduate students: $21
  • Ph.D. candidates: $28

Please note that internships are non-exempt positions and do not include employee benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in grassroots organizing and advocacy efforts
  • Analyze policies, programs, and regulations affecting the 50+ population
  • Support the production and dissemination of correspondence
  • Represent AARP at local events and media engagements
  • Monitor legislative issues in publications and news media
  • Deliver educational and advocacy materials to relevant offices
  • Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate or post-doctoral student enrolled throughout the internship
  • Self-starter who can adapt to tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiarity with video editing and multiple social media platforms is a plus
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
