Job Overview

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor of Journalism to join their team. This role involves teaching courses such as news writing, journalism business and ethics, and reporting to undergraduate journalism majors and others interested in the field. It is a full-time position with a three-year contract, renewable upon successful review.

Compensation

  • Type: Full-Time
  • Salary: $75,000-$95,000

Responsibilities

  • Teach three courses a semester, including Cross-media News Writing, Business and Ethics of Journalism, and other courses based on experience and departmental needs.
  • Provide career advising for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Serve on department, school, and university committees.
  • Engage in community and professional outreach.

Requirements

  • Several years of newsroom experience, preferably in writing, editing, producing, or content management.
  • Proficient in writing across platforms, fluent in broadcast and AP styles, and a digital-first mindset.
  • Robust portfolios showcasing reporting, writing/editing, social media, and storytelling skills across platforms.
  • Knowledge in data journalism, data visualization, or web development is a plus.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
