Job Overview

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Stanley Black & Decker, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into supporting the needs of the company. Throughout the internship, you will either work on-site or virtually and participate in regular events and weekly lunch and learn sessions. You will also receive customized training from our business units, allowing you to understand first-hand what a career at Stanley Black & Decker entails. Additionally, you will have the chance to build a cross-functional professional network and engage in various social activities.

During your internship, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing and prototyping innovative product concepts related to consumer power tools and other related fields.
  • Performing engineering design tasks for new product development and cost reduction projects, including enhancements in user experience, product value, manufacturing efficiency, or product reliability.
  • Assisting in developing and testing new products that meet design, marketing, regulatory, quality, and cost requirements.
  • Preparing possible solutions along with a decision matrix to assist in choosing a technical direction.
  • Supporting manufacturing facilities and the supply chain on design-related issues for products that are currently in production.
  • Considering cost, performance, and durability tradeoffs to help meet project cost targets.
  • Working collaboratively with a cross-functional team of professionals, including Product Design Group, Testing, Regulatory, Quality, Product Marketing, and Manufacturing.


The ideal candidate for the Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern position should have the following qualifications:

  • Rising Senior with a target graduation date in 2025
  • Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Basic CAD and Drafting skills
  • Courses in basic Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Embedded software (a plus)
  • Experience working with and designing sheet metal parts, stampings, welded assemblies, and injection molded plastic parts
  • Successful management of strong academics with extracurricular activities
