  • Saab in West Lafayette is seeking motivated, enthusiastic Engineering students for a paid Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op/Internship opportunity.
  • The opportunity is available for Summer 2024.
  • The Manufacturing Engineering function at Saab involves producing technical work for assembly and installation, rate readiness documentation, and process documentation.
  • Additionally, the function is responsible for manufacturing engineering development, manufacturing techniques, and qualification of new products based on Saab and customer requirements.

Compensation

  • Saab offers $20 - $22 per hour for first-assignment internships, depending on experience.
  • The provided compensation range is a general guideline. Factors considered when extending an offer include the role and associated responsibilities, location, market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a designated internship project assigned by the department manager.
  • The project aims to provide an opportunity to practice skills and apply knowledge by leading and coordinating a manufacturing engineering project with clear expectations.
  • Partner with assigned mentor for feedback and direction regarding the project assignment.
  • Job duties will vary to meet the student's development needs and provide context for completing assigned project tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of production systems and working methods.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in achieving low production costs without compromising function and quality.
  • Support engineering team in developing new technical solutions and efficient production systems based on Lean principles.
  • Gain experience with process planning for current and new products.
  • Provide support to production flows and layouts.
  • Drive continuous improvement for efficient production.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited degree program with a major in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Completed Freshman year or greater at the time of hire (fall 2032).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Prior Co-Op experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness and excitement to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Ability to be self-driven and deliver high-quality work.
  • Ability to drive and lead change.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
