Job Overview

As a Career Development Specialist- Arts, Design, Media & Communications, you will coach undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni in the Career Clusters of Arts, Design, Media, & Communications. You will facilitate workshops covering topics on career exploration, interviewing, networking, job/internship search techniques, and graduate/professional school preparation. Your role will involve analyzing and interpreting career assessment results and incorporating them in career coaching sessions. Additionally, you will provide career development support and ongoing training to the Peer Career Advising team related to Career Cluster trends each semester.

Responsibilities

  • Coach students and facilitate engaging workshops regarding career exploration, preparation, interviewing, networking, and job/internship search techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret career assessment results and incorporate them into career counseling and coaching sessions.
  • Promote and market University Career Services (UCS) services such as Cougar Pathway, Focus 2, Career Assessments, VMock Smart Resume, and CareerShift to engage student and alumni participation.
  • Manage projects and events relevant to the Career Cluster of Arts, Design, Media, & Communications.
  • Teach a one-hour Liberal Arts Career Planning Course in partnership with other UCS Career Development Specialist.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, academic advising liaisons, and other on-campus and off-campus partners to provide students with relevant resources and information.
  • Provide career development support and ongoing training to the Peer Career Advising team related to Career Cluster trends each semester.
  • Stay abreast of relevant labor market trends and salary resources through active participation in related professional associations.
  • Manage and evaluate career coaching services and programs; prepare monthly status reports; recommend and implement improvements to services.

Requirements

  • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to develop and build relationships with diverse populations and employers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully across different levels of the organization.
  • Excellent presentation and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills; detail-oriented; self-starter; creative; and willingness to learn.
  • Good working knowledge of career management technology platforms such as Symplicity or other candidate tracking systems.
  • Experience in marketing, communications, and/or outreach to diverse student populations.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office including SharePoint and MS Teams, as well as creative marketing tools.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management and program coordination skills.
  • Position may involve evening presentations and events.
