Job Overview

Performance Contracting is offering a summer internship program for college students. This program aims to provide interns with valuable experience and insight into the specialty construction industry. Throughout the internship, interns will receive mentorship, engage in hands-on activities, and gain a solid foundation in construction management.

Compensation

Hourly wage: $25 an hour

Relocation reimbursement and corporate housing option provided

Responsibilities

During the internship, interns will participate in various activities to develop their skills and knowledge in construction management. Some of the tasks include:

  • Learning how to write detailed proposals
  • Preparing bid analysis and review
  • Understanding and demonstrating project scheduling
  • Attending pre-bid walk-throughs
  • Learning the management process of project labor control, material handling, and job-cost analysis
  • Effectively managing subcontractors, materials, and equipment
  • Working directly with owners, construction managers, architects, engineers, and contractors
  • Assisting in the preparation of quantity take-offs
  • Maintaining accurate and timely project documentation and correspondence
  • Understanding the preparation of a financial job cost analysis
  • Learning the administration of the corporate safety program to ensure job site safety
  • Understanding specialized equipment utilization
  • Tracking and costing value material handling

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student seeking a Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or comparable degree
  • Reliable source of transportation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • A clear understanding of how to read and understand specifications and drawings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new job skills by engaging in the technical aspects of the job and applying new skills as they are taught
  • Customer service skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated baseline construction knowledge acquired through relevant work experience or completion of a second-year construction management/engineering curriculum
  • Basic knowledge of BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and/or OnScreen Takeoff is a plus
