As a Technical Writer Intern, you will have the opportunity to build your Technical Communication portfolio with live published content and cutting-edge technology. You will be working for an industry leader while authoring and contributing to topic-based authoring projects using the DITA XML architecture. This internship will allow you to implement minimalism by reducing words and utilizing graphics and animations. You will have the chance to work with PTC products and collaborate with multiple departments to create content that adds great value for our customers.

Responsibilities

As a Technical Writer Intern at The Toro Company, your responsibilities will include:

  • Authoring content in the DITA format, following the Toro Style Guide for Technical Content.
  • Improving and redrawing graphics according to the Toro Graphics Style Guide.
  • Learning how to create animations using the Toro Animations Style Guide.
  • Providing feedback on training materials and processes.
  • User testing animations, augmented reality experiences, and other graphical instructions.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should meet the following requirements:

#Basic Job Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with two years or less left to graduate in Technical Communication, Professional Communication and Emerging Media, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating technical instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability in technical illustration.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to participate full-time for the duration of the Internship Program.

#Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Proficiency with MS software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with markup languages, such as XML or HTML.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with Maya, Adobe After Effects, and/or Camtasia.
  • Interest in mechanical concepts and emerging instructional technologies.
