Transportation Engineering Intern (Bridges) - Summer 2024
Job Location
Houston, TX
Job Overview
- Assisting Engineers by performing routine aspects of structural engineering assignments
- Working on transportation projects related to bridges
- Developing calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and reports
- Conducting finite element analysis and research design options
- Preparing budgets and schedules for bridge design tasks
- Collaborating with project engineers, project managers, and clients
- Strong communication, organization, analysis, and problem-solving skills
Compensation

Responsibilities
- Perform structural design calculations for prestressed concrete and steel girder bridges, retaining walls, and drainage structures
- Utilize computer programming skills to develop automation-based solutions
- Conduct quality reviews and document research findings
- Assist with assigned duties by project engineers and project managers
- Attend meetings and interact with clients as experience progresses
- Collaborate effectively with bridge and transportation engineers throughout Jacobs and the local community
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
- Interest in bridge design
- Must be at least a rising Junior
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to manage and achieve milestones, budget constraints, and quality benchmarks on assigned projects and tasks
- Ideally, a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Working knowledge of MicroStation (preferred)
- Previous internship related to the field of study (preferred)
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management within Jacobs
