Job Overview

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an Economic Development Intern. This unique role bridges the Government Relations Office and the Office of the President, offering a multifaceted perspective on the university's engagement with public and private sector leaders on economic development, community engagement, and public policy.

Compensation

  • Position Type: Part-time
  • Pay Basis: Hourly

Responsibilities

  • Government Relations:
    • Support activities related to the building of relationships with government stakeholders at local, state, and national levels.
    • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of materials for briefings, hearings, and other events.
    • Keep abreast of local, state, and federal legislative changes and policy developments relevant to the university's mission and partnerships.
  • Office of the President:
    • Coordinate closely with the Office of the President on special projects, high-level meetings, and events concerning economic development and public policy.
    • Help in drafting, editing, and reviewing communications intended for internal and external audiences.
    • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration on strategic initiatives.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Assist in the collection and analysis of data pertinent to regional, state, and national economic trends and developing policy issues.
    • In collaboration with the Community Engagement team, engage with units across campus to understand the university's innovations/community engagements and tell the story of their potential economic, societal, and cultural impact.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and interpret findings, aiding in the formation of related strategies.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with data collection methods and analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated interest in economic development, policy-making, and higher education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education: Current enrollment in or recent graduate of a Master's or Bachelor's program, preferably in economics, public policy, international relations, or a related field.
