Job Overview

  • SRP is one of the largest public power and water utilities in the U.S., providing electricity to approximately one million customers in the greater metropolitan Phoenix area.
  • SRP is seeking a Law Student Intern to support the Environmental, Land, and Water Resources sections of Law Services.
  • The intern will be responsible for researching issues related to SRP's core business and assisting with legal writing and the preparation of various agreements.

Compensation

  • Pay rate is $18.00 per hour for an undergraduate intern and $20.00 per hour for a graduate intern.
  • This is a paid opportunity for a student working a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys in the SRP Legal Department with research, analysis, and legal writing.
  • Assist in the preparation of agreements related to SRP's role as a provider of electric power and water.
  • Research legal and policy issues related to the electric and water utility industries, including natural resources, environmental issues, power generation, corporate governance, and land and water rights.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Utilize IT applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in their second year of full-time study at an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Interest in researching legal and policy issues, critically thinking through solutions, and presenting solutions in oral and written communications.
  • Interest in natural resources law, including water, land, and environmental law, as well as corporate law and governance.
  • Strong desire to prioritize the success of the team over personal goals.
  • Ability to work well with others and leverage expertise learned in school and professionally.
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365, SharePoint, and Outlook.
