Job Overview

  • Do you love to study something and find ways to make it better?
  • Do you want to work as part of a team in the areas of aerosol sciences, epidemiology, and/or biology?
  • If you are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioaerosol Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a similar major, we'd love to have you join our team for the summer.
  • As an intern on our team, you will learn standard biological and aerosol laboratory skills, contribute to experimental activities, and be involved in topic areas including the effects of the environment on biological organisms, genomic sequencing and metagenomic analysis, and single organism analytical tool development.

Responsibilities

  • Learn standard biological and aerosol laboratory and analytic skills
  • Support experimentation and contribute to experimental design
  • Conduct experiments in a laboratory or field setting
  • Analyze data and present results
  • Contribute to projects related to the effects of the environment on biological organisms, genomic sequencing and metagenomic analysis, and single organism analytical tool development

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioaerosol Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a similar major
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Excellent analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • General comprehension of biology-related fields such as microbiology and awareness of laboratory equipment and methods
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.
  • Preferred: Experience with Matlab, Labview, Python Java, and/or basic microbiology culture techniques.
