Job Overview

As an Academic Advisor at Chaminade University of Honolulu, you will play a crucial role in promoting student success. In addition to general advising duties, you will also be involved in various aspects of student transition, retention, progression, and post-commencement planning.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an Academic Advisor will include:

  • Offering guidance on course selection and academic programs, while encouraging exploration of various majors
  • Communicating curricular requirements for general education and academic programs
  • Understanding and interpreting University policies and procedures
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Assisting students with progression towards graduation and understanding academic/program requirements
  • Collaborating with divisions, staff, and faculty across campus to support overall student success
  • Maintaining regular contact with advisees through various methods
  • Documenting advising sessions and interactions with students
  • Administering appropriate interventions when student concerns arise
  • Creating a welcoming and caring environment for students
  • Assisting in the development of educational and career plans
  • Facilitating workshops and presentations for students on topics related to Student Success
  • Collecting and analyzing data through surveys and communicating trends to the Assistant Director
  • Participating in staffing Academic Affairs unit related events

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in teaching, counseling, or administration in higher education
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prepare reports
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the university
  • Experience working with Pacific Islander, Asian American, and local Hawaii students preferred
