Job Overview

  • The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) is seeking a Transit Research Intern to support their Global Program.
  • The intern will assist in data collection, literature reviews, and analysis to provide practical guidance for decision makers in sustainable transportation.
  • This is a part-time internship position, with the option to work up to 40 hours per week.
  • The internship will last from May/June 2023 through September 2023, with the possibility of extension.
  • A stipend of $400 per week for 20 hours or $800 per week for 40 hours is provided.

Compensation

  • Stipend: $400 per week for 20 hours or $800 per week for 40 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform literature reviews and synthesize findings for research products and communications materials.
  • Assist in identifying data sources and making data requests.
  • Obtain, clean, and organize quantitative data.
  • Conduct statistical analyses.
  • Create visual materials based on data analysis.
  • Participate in meetings and presentations to contribute to the research capacity of the organization.
  • Perform occasional administrative duties as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

#REQUIRED

  • Interest in cities, sustainable transportation, urban planning, or related areas.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in urban planning, engineering, geography, or related field.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in conducting comprehensive internet research.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritize urgent requests.
  • Availability to work 20 hours per week, with flexible hours between 9am and 6pm.
  • Ability to work occasionally at the Washington, D.C. office.

#PREFERRED

  • Familiarity with OpenStreetMap, Mapbox, or other data visualization platforms.
  • Experience with public transit.
  • Proficiency in GIS.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Chinese, or Portuguese a plus.
