Job Overview
- Performs technical, investigative, and regulatory work to protect and promote public health
- Evaluates compliance with state and county laws, rules, and regulations for various establishments and systems
- Determines public health risk factors and recommends appropriate remediation measures
Compensation
- Salary Range: $54,039.04 - $67,548.80 / year
- This is an exempt (salary) position
- Pay rates based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity
Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with operators of systems and establishments to improve operational processes
- Conduct field tests, sampling, and investigations to assess potential contamination sources
- Review inspection reports and monitor follow-up corrective and enforcement actions
- Investigate complaints concerning environmental law violations
- Coordinate and participate in enforcement actions with external agencies
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and other documents
- Consult with management and other agencies on environmental concerns
- Utilize data processing applications to compile and manage data
- Provide field training and serve as an educational resource to the public
Requirements
- Experience: Two years of experience or equivalent in environmental health practice
- Education: Graduate from an accredited baccalaureate or postgraduate degree program
- Licenses and Certifications: Registered Environmental Health Specialist in NC, state authorization or licensure in relevant fields, valid driver's license
- Knowledge of state laws, regulations, and communicable diseases
- Skills in applying rules and procedures, statistical analysis, and effective communication
- Proficient in using computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
