Job Overview

New York State is at the forefront of the fight against global climate change and the transition towards a clean energy-powered economy. As a Sustainability Coordinator Intern, you will work with the Government Affairs team at NYSERDA to support their efforts in achieving the goals set by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act). This paid internship offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of sustainability and contribute to New York's clean energy economy.

Compensation

  • Pay rate: $15 to $17 per hour based on current class year
  • Internship duration: June 1st, 2023 through the Summer and academic year
  • Location: Interns must be located in New York State
  • Work hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week during the Summer, up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester

Responsibilities

As a Sustainability Coordinator Intern, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and tracking legislation and providing updates
  • Drafting formal business letters
  • Creating educational content for staff on sustainability
  • Conducting outreach to prepare briefing documents
  • Tracking legislative responses and agency sustainability projects
  • Conducting research on various topics, including legislation
  • Preparing reports and proposals
  • Performing assigned responsibilities

Requirements

To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Current, full-time college student, preferably pursuing a degree in political science, energy, or environmental studies
  • Good writing and communication skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to use a land-line phone and voice mail, including comfort with speaking by phone
  • Ability to work remotely, as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs and WebEx
  • Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Ability to work independently or in a group and follow through on assigned tasks
  • Strong work ethic
