Job Overview

The successful Data Analyst Intern performs a variety of complex/technical support work and administrative data analysis work on revenue and services across the USA. Identifies external sources of reliable data on charitable giving to not-for-profit agencies. Extracts and integrates data from internal and external sources and prepares technical reports and spreadsheets related to Salvation Army public support in the context of total charitable giving in the US, especially charitable giving for human services charities.

Responsibilities

  • Captures revenue and service information from the four territories to build a data file for trend analysis report
  • Organizes, interprets, and analyzes data using financial and statistical techniques to determine trends and produce reports
  • Prepares final reports including a 10-year and 25-year comparison report by territory, nationally, and by state
  • Compiles and publishes income and activity reports, service reports, online fundraising reports, in-kind donations, and statistical analysis related to the Christmas fundraising program
  • Collects, combines, and analyzes National Statistical System information from the four territories
  • Produces a 10-year and 25-year social services and spiritual program report by territory and nationally
  • Collects and analyzes data for use in grant applications, media releases, joint venture partnerships, and presentations

Requirements

  • Current College Student studying Finance, Economics, or Statistics
  • Experience in fundraising or analytics setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of effective and efficient record keeping practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of mathematical calculations/statistics
  • Interest in Nonprofits, fundraising revenue, sources of funding for NPOs
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Advance Excel and Access
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data using statistical tools like Microsoft Excel, Access, and SPSS
  • Ability to present reports in charts, graphs, tables, and other formats
  • Ability to learn and provide assistance in a timely and effective manner
  • Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information accurately
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements for an internship
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to operate office equipment and use computer applications
  • Ability to concentrate, follow instructions, and work independently
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously without becoming frustrated or disorganized
