Job Overview

We are seeking passionate individuals who are dedicated to empowering youth through the arts. As an Art Specialist, you will work with organizations like the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) to pilot afterschool studio art programs at community centers in South Hayward. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to connect arts to nature and parks programs through special workshops at the Sulfur Creek Nature Center and Shoreline Center. In this role, you will create engaging educational lessons focused on subjects like ceramics, painting/drawing, sculpture, drama, and dance, while also addressing students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs. You will also gain valuable experience in arts coordination and administration.

Compensation

  • $2,100 monthly living stipend
  • $10,000 education award upon completion of term

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver activities that enhance social emotional learning
  • Implement programming using youth development best practices
  • Foster mentoring relationships with youth
  • Encourage outdoor education and recreation
  • Support students in developing the skills needed for success
  • Provide homework and academic support at school sites
  • Offer case management and independent living skills at community based sites
  • Plan and facilitate youth-focused lesson plans and activities
  • Promote a safe and positive learning environment
  • Ensure student safety at all times
  • Model positive attitudes, behaviors, and language
  • Maintain accurate attendance records
  • Attend training and cohort meetings

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
  • At least 17 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Availability for full-time (40 hours/week) 11-month term of service
  • Successful completion of TB test and Live Scan/fingerprinting
  • Preferred: 48 college credits completed
  • Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish/English
