Job Overview

We are seeking a Social Services Assistant to provide support and assistance to veterans with serious mental illness. As a member of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, you will help veterans identify their needs, educate them on available community resources, and facilitate their overall recovery. This is not a virtual position and requires living within a commutable distance of the duty location.

Compensation

  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm)
  • Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized
  • Telework: Possible, eligibility discussed during the interview process

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a contact person for veterans with serious mental illness admitted to the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center.
  • Gather background information through interviews conducted at the mental health outpatient clinic, in the community, or over the telephone.
  • Help veterans identify needs related to available agency services and make appropriate referrals.
  • Educate veterans on the full range of community resources and programs.
  • Provide assistance on transportation, housing, lodging, and other community resources.
  • Act as a participant on interdisciplinary teams and contribute to individualized treatment plans.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group programming within the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center.
  • Offer individual support services to veterans within the center and in the community.
  • Provide transportation to and facilitate community integration activities.
  • Actively participate in program development and improvement.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Probationary period may be required
  • Subject to background/security investigation
  • Completion of online onboarding process required
  • Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required
  • Participation in COVID-19 vaccination program required

Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-5 level:

  • Three years of general experience,
