Job Overview
We are seeking a Social Services Assistant to provide support and assistance to veterans with serious mental illness. As a member of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, you will help veterans identify their needs, educate them on available community resources, and facilitate their overall recovery. This is not a virtual position and requires living within a commutable distance of the duty location.
Compensation
- Salary: Competitive, based on experience
- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm)
- Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

Responsibilities
- Serve as a contact person for veterans with serious mental illness admitted to the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center.
- Gather background information through interviews conducted at the mental health outpatient clinic, in the community, or over the telephone.
- Help veterans identify needs related to available agency services and make appropriate referrals.
- Educate veterans on the full range of community resources and programs.
- Provide assistance on transportation, housing, lodging, and other community resources.
- Act as a participant on interdisciplinary teams and contribute to individualized treatment plans.
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group programming within the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center.
- Offer individual support services to veterans within the center and in the community.
- Provide transportation to and facilitate community integration activities.
- Actively participate in program development and improvement.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment:
- U.S. Citizen
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Probationary period may be required
- Subject to background/security investigation
- Completion of online onboarding process required
- Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required
- Participation in COVID-19 vaccination program required
Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-5 level:
- Three years of general experience,
