Job Overview

Student LunchBox is a non-profit organization committed to fighting food insecurity among college students. We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and experienced individual to serve on our Board of Directors in the role of Grant Manager/Writer. This is a highly rewarding part-time volunteer position with a flexible schedule that requires a minimum commitment of 7 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary to meet grant deadlines or attend community events. As a Board Member, you will play a key role in developing and implementing our grant strategy, ensuring the continued success of our mission to alleviate hunger among college students in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

  • Grant Management and Development:

    • Develop and manage the organization's grant strategy, including identifying potential grant opportunities, researching funding sources, and maintaining a calendar of grant deadlines and requirements.
    • Conduct thorough research on potential grant opportunities, analyze grant criteria, eligibility requirements, and guidelines, and communicate relevant information to the executive director, board members, and staff.
    • Write and prepare compelling, accurate, and timely grant proposals, applications, and reports, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.
    • Maintain a detailed record of all grant submissions and ensure timely submission of grant proposals and reports.
    • Work collaboratively with the organization's staff to gather the necessary data, program information, and other materials needed to develop grant proposals and reports.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, including foundations, corporations, and government agencies, and work to establish new funding partnerships.
  • Board Member:

    • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and other related events.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan and policies.
    • Help set fundraising goals and assist in fundraising and donor cultivation efforts.
    • Represent the organization and promote its mission and services to the community.
    • From time to time, participate in Food Distributions and SLB Campus events (If in Los Angeles County).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field).
  • At least 10 years of experience in grant writing and grant management for a nonprofit organization, preferably in a food bank, food pantry, or human services.
  • Demonstrated success in securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including working collaboratively with staff, board members, and volunteers.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising principles and strategies.
