Job Overview

The Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Manager plays a critical role in leading strategic communications with key stakeholders and national organizations for GED Testing Service. This position is responsible for connecting GED students and grads with career training programs, jobs, apprenticeships, and colleges. As a key member of the team, the Manager will shape and maintain the brand voice for non-GED student stakeholders, including media, GED preparation/adult education programs, educators, policymakers/lawmakers, employers participating in the GEDWorks program, and national literacy and advocacy organizations.

Compensation

The minimum full-time salary range is between $75,000 - $85,000 annually. This position is also eligible to participate in an annual incentive program. For more information on benefits offered, please visit our website.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate an annual multi-channel communications strategy
  • Monitor the visibility and sentiment of the GED program and provide regular information and feedback to GEDTS leaders
  • Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson for the organization
  • Manage communications materials and channels, including e-newsletter, web pages, social media posts, and press releases
  • Draft communications for the Vice President and President, such as monthly newsletter columns, LinkedIn posts, and occasional speeches
  • Develop content and strategy for the In Session e-newsletter, reaching over 15,000 stakeholders monthly
  • Manage and develop a communications intern and/or temporary communication specialist
  • Develop outreach strategies to strengthen partnerships and alliances
  • Represent GED Testing Service at key national organizations and attend state and national conferences
  • Travel: approximately 5% domestic travel required

Requirements

  • Candidates should be located in the U.S., with a preference for those near Washington D.C., major metro areas, or state capitols
  • 4+ years of experience in a communications role
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience combination
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to convey information concisely and compellingly
  • Excellent copyrighting and copy-editing skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, both one-on-one and with small groups
  • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating communication plans
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and handle details while tracking larger strategic goals and objectives
  • Solid work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Word, Excel/Google Sheets, and PowerPoint
  • Preferred experience with WordPress
  • Understanding of adult education and workforce policy is highly desirable
  • Spanish-language skills are highly desirable
