At theCoderSchool, we are an after-school drop-off program for kids learning to code. We provide a fun and inspirational environment to bring out the inner hacker in all kids. We are looking for passionate Code Coaches to teach our next generation how to change the world! This is a part-time position for 4-15 hours per week, depending on your schedule and availability.

Compensation

Pay: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour

Responsibilities

As a Code Coach, you will have various teaching styles depending on your schedule, ability, and desire. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Private and Semi-Private Tutoring: One-to-one or one-on-two coding lessons for kids. Teaching younger kids in Scratch or Snap, while older kids gravitate towards Python/Javascript or other advanced languages like Java, C++, Unity. The kids will create apps in consultation with you and generally follow our curriculum.
  • App Team: Managing a team of kids who will collaborate on group exercises to improve their presentation skills, with the objective of preparing presentations for our regular Coder Fairs.
  • Code Class: Teaching traditional curriculum-based classes with a larger student-to-teacher ratio, where all students follow a specific set curriculum.

Requirements

We are looking for individuals who meet the following requirements:

  • Passion: We need to see your passion for giving back to the kids and your excitement when your students excel at coding challenges.
  • Great Communicator: Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with parents and need patience when working with kids.
  • Street Cred: College-level Code Coaches must have a major in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field from a nearby accredited school. Veteran Code Coaches should have relevant industry experience.
  • Coding Skills: Strong grasp of basic procedural programming. General knowledge of other languages such as JavaScript, PHP, HTML/CSS, Python, and Java is preferred.
  • Teaching Experience: Experience teaching kids in any subject is a plus, as is experience with Scratch or Snap.
