Job Overview

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH) Public Health Laboratory is seeking a qualified City Research Scientist I to join our Quality Management unit. As a City Research Scientist, you will collaborate with various agencies and departments to ensure project completion and prioritize laboratory activities. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a historic municipal public health laboratory and make a lasting impact on the health of all New Yorkers.

Compensation

  • Hiring Rate: $64,140.00 (Flat Rate)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and expedite activities required for project completion within the Bureau of Public Health Laboratory, under management supervision
  • Monitor and report progress in achieving laboratory and Quality Management (QM) unit priorities
  • Advise QM Director and senior leadership on progress and barriers, developing solutions to overcome obstacles
  • Design and implement improvement projects for the laboratory and the QM unit
  • Ensure all lab activities meet regulatory standards
  • Perform laboratory testing, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Write and edit manuscripts, reports, and other relevant documents
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing special projects
  • Attend conferences and meetings relevant to advancing public health objectives

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate field of physical, biological, or environmental science, or in public health
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity is preferred
