Job Overview

New Los Angeles Elementary Charter School (New LA) is seeking a passionate and well-organized teacher for Transitional Kindergarten. As a teacher at New LA, you will have the opportunity to teach in a small school environment and contribute to the school's leadership and future. We are looking for educators who are experienced in play-based education and committed to anti-racist, culturally responsive pedagogy.

At New LA, teachers play a vital role in shaping the school's culture. You will participate in school decision-making, collaborate on curriculum, scheduling, and programs, and be deeply invested in the mission, culture, and success of the school community.

This position requires in-person teaching, and New LA Charter School has a COVID vaccine mandate for all employees, contractors, providers, and visitors on campus. Unvaccinated individuals are not eligible for this position.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary ranging from $60,000-$99,000 for fully credentialed teachers
  • Generous package of medical benefits
  • Enrollment in the California State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) retirement plan
  • Optional participation in a 403b plan

Responsibilities

As a teacher at New LA, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a supportive, student-centered learning environment
  • Guiding students to mastery of the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards and California Frameworks
  • Using data to inform practice, including participation in school-wide benchmarking and intervention
  • Creating a nurturing and caring classroom environment for all students
  • Communicating effectively with parents about student academic progress and social-emotional needs
  • Participating in social justice and community engagement activities
  • Participating in outdoor education programming, including multiple-day and overnight camping trips
  • Working well as a team player to prepare students for success
  • Serving as a positive role model
  • Collaborating with co-teachers and colleagues in grade levels, committees, and full faculty
  • Providing accommodations and support in accordance with IEPs and 504 plans when applicable
  • Providing scaffolds for all learners, including multilingual learners through iELD and dELD
  • Demonstrating a commitment to the whole child, with concern for each student's academic and social-emotional well-being
  • Facilitating an "open door classroom" to share best practices with colleagues and visitors, where all staff members embrace their role as learners

Requirements

  • California Multiple Subject Credential (or be enrolled in a university program and intern eligible)
  • Child Development Permit OR at least 24 units in early childhood education or child development
  • Professional experience in a classroom setting with preschool-age children comparable to 24 units
  • Enjoy working with 4 and 5-year-olds (preschool experience is a plus)
  • Demonstrated classroom excellence, differentiated instruction, and student-centered methodologies
  • Commitment to the mission and values of New LA
  • Actively engage with and support the school's social justice mission and demonstrate a commitment to intersectional, anti-racist education
  • Be flexible and a team player
  • Have a positive outlook, enjoy collaborating with colleagues, and appreciate different points of view
  • Bilingualism is a plus
