Job Overview

This position is for an engineering technician working with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, ACUASI. The engineering technician will work with engineering and management to document operational theory of systems, write reports on system operations, compose stories about the impact of system operations, and create video content on operations. The goal is to integrate unmanned aircraft into Alaska's airspace. The technician will also support general engineering operations, design circuit boards, compose integration scripts, and repair aircraft damaged in flight operations. Researching emerging technologies and practices is a key responsibility. This position may be assigned additional responsibilities depending on expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain communication with other staff Monday through Friday and collaborate when needed.
  • Assist project managers in estimating project time, reporting development progress, and implementing analytical tools.
  • Conduct independent research and learning to acquire necessary skills.
  • Attend meetings for coordination, strategizing, and planning.
  • Assist in practical operations challenges and gain understanding of organizational capabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $12-20, Depending on experience

Responsibilities

The engineering technician will:

  • Document operational theory of systems, write reports, compose stories, and create video content.
  • Communicate with engineering and management to represent the organization's direction and explore activities.
  • Support general engineering operations and possibly design circuit boards, compose integration scripts, or repair aircraft.
  • Research emerging technologies and stay up to date.
  • Be located in Fairbanks, Alaska for regular in-person meetings.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the USA. H-1B1 sponsorship will not be provided.
  • Desired Skills:
    • Verbal, presentation, video, and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Team player attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Basic computer skills such as proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficient in documentation and report composition.
    • Drone assembly and repair experience.
    • General engineering and computer science skill set.
  • Beneficial but Non-Required Skills:
    • Aviation background.
    • Model RC aircraft and/or drone experience.
    • Strong interest in engineering and science.
